OUR MISSION STATEMENT To guide our youth to truly know Jesus and to serve Him in our parish and the world. OUR CORE VALUES
(A set of timeless guiding principles)
OUR BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal-This is a goal, not a statement. It is supposed to be unattainable, something we keep striving for.) By 2019, 100% of our middle school and high school youth will encounter Jesus and develop a deeper relationship with Him and His Church. |
OUR VIVID DESCRIPTION
(The Vivid Description is a vibrant, engaging, and specific description. It is what our parish would look like if we achieved our BHAG. We should ALL want to belong to this parish!) Young people are the energizers of the parish. They exude the joy that only comes from knowing Jesus. Their relationships with their peers is based on mutual respect and love for one another as seen in how they care, support, and encourage each other. They have a hunger to know more about Jesus and they want a deeper relationship with Him, so they sign up for every faith formation opportunity within the parish and attend every youth event. They actively seek opportunities outside of the parish such as retreats, conferences and workshops where they willingly share their witness talks. Church is a priority to our youth. Within the parish, they are everywhere, serving side-by-side with adults and sometimes by themselves as leaders in all parish ministries and programs. They teach religious education, they serve at the altar, and they are present to help within all parish functions. They attend Mass regularly. They have scheduled times for Eucharistic Adoration, and they pray throughout their day; on their own and with their peers. Their hearts are on fire with love for Jesus and they cannot keep it to themselves. They talk to their peers about their faith and they freely share their “encounters” of Jesus with them. They yearn for time in contemplative prayer, truly listening to where God is calling them. And they are attentive at other times of the day so they will hear God’s call and are able to respond. Families are reliant on their faith. They pray together in their home, they talk about their faith with each other and they attend parish activities together. Many of the family decisions are based on principles of faith. Families love each other and enjoy spending time together. Because of their relationship with Jesus, the youth have come to realize the importance of their family and they respect each individual member; grandparents, siblings, and extended family. Service becomes a way of life for our youth. In the parish, they are willing to lend a helping hand to those who need it; by opening doors, helping the elderly, engaging them in conversation, always giving a warm smile and a friendly hello. Youth are a positive role model to the children in our parish and offer words of support and encouragement to them. In the community, they raise money and offer assistance at the Lord’s Cupboard as well as other charitable organizations. They stand and pray at all Life Chain events. They attend our diocesan service retreats. In the world, they joyfully attend a weeklong mission trip and raise money and/or donations for the countries needing assistance. The parish, community and world are a much better place because of the youth from St. Mary’s. |
